Objectspace is growing. In 2017 Objectspace moves from it's long-time home on Ponsonby Road to 13 Rose Road, with new exhibition spaces, and an expanded focus on craft, architecture and design.
With the catalyst for change an increase in core funding from Creative New Zealand, the size of the organisation has effectively doubled at a time when the interest in craft and design-based practice including architecture, graphic design and industrial design has grown significantly, a broad and diverse visual culture is emerging which needs a distinct home of its own.
Working with architect Richard Naish at RTA Studio, Objectspace is transforming 13 Rose Road in the heart of Ponsonby into a gallery with four exhibition spaces and a multi-use public programme space. Creating a home for makers, designers and architects that is dedicated to connecting audiences to the extraordinary work that they do. It is a place to be with craft and design, to engage in conversation about design-based practice and New Zealand's material culture, to be challenged, enriched and entertained.
At 13 Rose Road Objectspace’s extensive programme of curated exhibitions, events, publications and partnerships will create new platforms for outstanding practitioners, critical discourse and professional development. A contemporary gallery for craft, design and architecture that will enhance awareness and interest in these creative disciplines, extend our reach and international profile, and provide a space for dialogue and participation for audiences.
