Hui discussion: Reflecting on Architecture of Aroha and Building an archive of Indigenous architecture

To warm the space before the opening of Architecture of Aroha and Building an archive of Indigenous architecture, Objectspace hosted a gathering of architects and creatives. Each was asked to bring texts that have been influential to their practice to become part of Joar Nango’s archive in the exhibition. The texts offered included philosophy, technical guides, poetry, articles and legislation.

To close the exhibitions we will host a second hui with a group of wāhine makers. Each will offer a work or a text that has been influential on their practice, reflecting on the knowledge exchange that is possible when we share time and space together.

Attendees to the hui are welcome to sit and listen to the offerings of this group of amazing makers; Hinewaimarama Tanya Reihana-White, Ngaroma Riley, Jasmine Te Hira, Arielle Walker, Sarah Hudson, Tara-Lee Manu, Chantel Matthews, Raukura Turei and Tessa Harris.

This programme expands on the exhibition Architecture of Aroha that includes contributions from Hinewai (Tanya) White, Ngaroma Riley and Jasmine Te Hira, alongside Gunvor Guttorm, Berit Kristine Andersen Guvsám, and Inga Ravna Eira.

It is supported by Nordisk Kulturfond’s Globus initiative. Our thanks to The Purple Gift for providing special support for public programming around Architecture of Aroha.
