Join us for the inaugural event in the Ockham Residential Lecture Series. This annual series will feature ten lectures and panel discussions across different themes that critically engage with craft, design and architecture, and feature speakers and guests from throughout New Zealand and internationally.

Catalysed by the recently announced closure of Manukau Institute of Technology’s acclaimed Jewellery School, it is timely that we focus the first event on the changing shape of craft education in Aotearoa. The discussion will look at the current situation within the applied arts, and where appropriate, at parallels or points of contrast for art and design where the shift away from specialised skills-based learning is also prevalent. This lecture is an opportunity to discuss wider philosophical ideas around education and what we might value most when it comes to notions of learning and the transmission of knowledge.
