Model City draws together architectural models for notable projects sited in the Waitaha Canterbury landscape.

From contended civic buildings to novel homes, these models offer a window into the architecture of the region and the joy of the dioramatic scale.

A semi-rural home that houses four generations and resembles both wool shed and space ship shares the space with New Zealand’s largest aquatic recreation venue and a quintessential double brick villa. Historic venues for worship and learning are bookended by projects yet to break ground. Model City explores the form as both a generative drawing tool and a communication device – of buildings past, present and future.

Launching ahead of Open Christchurch, Model City features models from practitioners throughout Aotearoa, including A D F Workshop, Andrew Barrie Lab, Architectus, Athfield Architects, Boffa Miskell, Brooksfield, Bull O'Sullivan Architecture, Common, Hamish Shaw Architects, Hughes Developments, Makers of Architecture, PAC Studio, Patterson Associates, Peter Kent Architects, prau, Richard Gardiner, Sheppard & Rout Architects, Shigeru Ban, Short Architecture, Sir Miles Warren, Tobin Smith Architect and Warren and Mahoney.
