Announcing the 2025 Courtyard Plinth Commission: Raimana Jones

Supported by the Jan Warburton Charitable Trust

Objectspace’s 2025 Courtyard Plinth commission has been awarded to Raimana Jones, an architectural designer based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

After pursuing a traditional architecture education followed by the requisite stint working for large architecture outfits, an invitation to teach design studio and technical papers inspired a shift for Jones. All spare time became filled with hands-on making in the university workshop, fostering a material-led design approach that soon informed Jones’ founding of Atelier Jones Design.

Working across furniture, interior and architectural design, Atelier Jones Design is a design practice that cites influences as far flung as the Bauhaus to Department of Conservation huts to the practical simplicity of a worksite safety rail.

For Objectspace’s 2025 courtyard project, Jones will create a mobile installation of flexible furniture that draws on his interest in housing density and the design of domestic spaces. Responding to the footprint of the site, the installation playfully supports various functions – from working from home to hosting. The project will be launched in April 2025.

Objectspace's annual Courtyard Plinth Commission is made possible with support from the Jan Warburton Charitable Trust. Our deep gratitude to the Trust, and to all those who submitted applications for this opportunity.
