Shiloh Sagapolu’s iconic Lady Toa T-Shirt is being reissued to coincide with the opening of PUPURITIA: Storytelling and Contemporary Textiles.
Limited numbers of the T-Shirts are available, they sold out in record time in the first edition. Pre-orders are available until Friday 28 March and will be available to collect from Objectspace from Friday 4 April, 6pm.
Shiloh created Lady Toa as an iconic symbol for siren culture, a subculture where crews battle custom-built sound systems, utilising sirens from loudspeakers.
“Traditionally, siren crew merchandise features a lot of text, often placed on the back of shirts. ‘Toa’ references the favoured brand of sirens and also means warrior in Samoan. I played on ‘siren’ having two meanings – also referring to alluring women in Greek mythology.”
